Hey look, I am on ApartmentTherapy (or more accurately, my photography is). I thought it would be a fun series to participate in.
Looks like we were ahead of the Times. (Haha). (via Angela)
On Friday night, we had some lovely friends over who we hadn’t seen in a while. Tom made scallops and linguine in a white wine reduction (woo woo) and we talked books and other Friday night topics. I can’t distinctly remember but I’m pretty sure that we watched more of The Office after they left. We’ve been doing that a lot. :)
I headed out early on Saturday to meet up with my friend Jeri, who I hadn’t seen since she was in my wedding last year. She lives and works in Connecticut now, and had come to the city on a bus trip with other co-workers. It was great to see her - if too short. I headed home and we watched Yi yi, the first Taiwanese film I’ve ever watched and liked right on the spot. It was rather long, but warm and funny and touching. Then we headed to the Zoae series at the Brecht Forum, featuring some really excellent artists (actress and playwright Danai Gurira, poet Joe Haferbecker, and the always wonderful singer-songwriter Susan Enan). Late night. And I think more Office when we got home.
Sunday began with a stop in at Blue Sky Bakery for muffins (I’m not sure what Tom had, I had a most delectable raspberry-mango muffin), then church, then home briefly before heading to a birthday party on a rooftop in our neighborhood, followed by a wrap party for one of Tom’s recent films in Soho. But the rooftop view was amazing.
That’s where our church meets - it’s not our building, but it’s pretty nice, though sans A/C.
(I love my cameraphone.)
I got a new phone yesterday; a LG Chocolate phone in “Black Cherry”. For all my geekiness, I’m not much of a phone girl, and my last phone was from 2003 (I think). Because I switched contracts mid-stream when I moved out of my parents’ house and got a real job, my Verizon “new every two” re-started and didn’t end until last weekend. But now! I can take pictures! And have speed dial! It is very cool.
Tom got a job as a PA on a funded film (meaning, he gets paid now instead of deferred) and has been very busy, and it looks like he has to be gone most of next week. Which means I will be alone, but not at loose ends . . . not me. I think it does mean I will get the camera all week. Look out, world.
We head north tonight to Brewster, NY for Adam & Renee’s wedding, which we are shooting (Tom mostly, me with the girly before-the-wedding bits). Haven’t been to a summer wedding with friends in a long time. And it’s a bit stifling out; hopefully being out of the city will help a bit.
Though the Wednesday holiday threw me off, I’m glad tomorrow is Friday.
On Tuesday night, we went to Midsummer Night’s Swing and danced the night away, quite literally. It was great fun. We’re not great dancers, but we’re not shabby, either. I did wear the wrong shoes, though, and subsequently have had the great pleasure of having blisters on both the top AND bottom of my feet. Still, we’ll return. That has to be one of the most fun events in the NYC summer.
Yesterday my mom was in town to see Les Miserables with some friends, so we had lunch with her beforehand, then came home. I had an article to write (which I did, successfully, and not badly). And we weren’t sure if the rain would hold off, but it did, so we went to a rooftop party in Brooklyn Heights and watched the fireworks - which were spectacular, and directly in our view, as the rooftop was just off the Promenade and the fireworks were over the East River.
Back to the grindstone today; haircut and then an art show tonight, and possibly more swing tomorrow, then out to Jersey on Saturday. I have to go to Chicago next week for work (Tuesday night through Thursday night). So we’re busy, as usual.
Lastly, some of my pictures from our trip are slowly going up on Flickr. Click below to see them.

I spent the day at the Cloisters yesterday.
Besides my seasonal allergies, who staged a fierce and unexpected comeback, I had a lovely time.
Tom met me (somewhat unexpectedly) for lunch.
And he brought these, which you can see against the lovely backdrop of my cubicle:

We are soon to be the proud parents . . .
. . . of this baby and a number of its accessories.
(Tax return season.)
Two more sites I fell for recently:
• I Heart Luxe - so, while I have lovely things and purchase judiciously, I can’t exactly afford a lot of the items that are considered “luxury”, like a designer handbag or $800 shoes. But, I’m slowly evolving my ideas of simple luxury - the richness, even sumptuousness that can be found in daily life, a sort of less-is-more attitude, with a side of really great hot chocolate. And on that note . . .
• 3191 - Two women are photoblogging their (early) mornings, and their pictures are just lovely - they’re inspiring me to get up a little earlier and enjoy the luxury of a quiet, unrushed morning at home. Maybe I’ll even make myself a latte before work one of these days.
Oh yes. And I got a haircut.
I like to inform as many people as possible ahead of time, as I am squiffy about having it pointed out to me when I see people later on. :)
If you didn’t hear, Alissa and I are now starring in our own movie. Kudos to Cori Poley who did up the poster for us. I’m upset about the PG-13 rating though. I don’t understand why it would say, “some material may not be suitable for children.” The movie only covers the wedding, you know? So what’s that all about?

I’m absolutely in love with this chandelier from Plug:
