Dad

We got a huge amount of traffic, so I just need to say it now . . .

My Dad died at age 47 in the hospital yesterday morning (August 30). We came upstate as soon as we could.

At this point, we’re postponing our wedding till a later date, though we will be married privately this week with our close family around us at my parents’ house.

Please be in prayer for us, and for my mom and brother.

If you’re in the area, you can come to the funeral tomorrow, Friday, September 1. The viewing will be at 9am and the funeral service will be at 10am at Loudonville Community Church.

Our prayers are with you, your bro, and mom. We’re here.

Today I was thinking that your dad is probably tracking down every Red Sox legend over the years who was saved… and telling them all about the 2004 World Series.

    Heaven… we can only imagine.

[...] So, that part of our trip was great. Still, it was hard because we learned enroute to the wedding that Alissa’s father went home to the Lord on Wednesday. I can hardly feel like I can say anything about the amount of sorrow this brings to her family, and now Tom’s family also. Steve was not my dad, but still I was blessed by his life. We attended his funeral on Friday, and did the best we could to be a comfort to Alissa, Tom, and her family. I kept thinking of Job’s friends in the Bible, who said nothing for seven days after Job had lost everything. Well, I don’t know if I said the right things or not (more likely I didn’t, knowing how often I manage to say the wrong thing at the wrong time), but I prayed much for this precious, precious family. And for Tom and Alissa, starting out under such circumstances. And yet, somehow God will be faithful in this, I am certain. [...]

    Dear Alissa,

I hadn’t checked this because I hadn’t yet updated my site feeds. I am so sorry about your dad. I don’t even know you and I just got all choked up. I pray that you are surrounded and embraced by God’s love during this complex time of sorrow and joy.

    Peace,
    Katherine
