How Walkable Is Your Neighborhood?

Via Comment:

What’s your neighborhood’s walkability score? Put in your address and the website will calculate the score by proximity to stores, restaurants, schools, parks, and more.

Our, of course, is 94%, but I imagine that’s normal for a lot of NYC. I think this will be interesting in suburban neighborhoods.

Put your walkability score in the comments!

I did this awhile ago for our neighborhood - which is exceedingly suburban - and was very surprised to see how high the score was. We live within a half-mile from an enormous mall, so that covered many of the bases they calculate. Even though our neighborhood may be “walkable,” it isn’t pleasantly walkable because it’s not remotely pedestrian-friendly. I don’t know how they could quantify that for a survey like this, though.

Astoria is 94. Guess Brooklyn and Queens aren’t so different after all.

One of my neighbourhoods (I currently split my time between two houses in Oxford) got a 29; the other got a 49. I find both of them eminently walkable, though - most of Oxford is, really. And the site seems not to know about quite a few shops, etc., that I visit regularly. Interesting, though.

Ours is 88% which is crazy!! There are absolutely no sidewalks and shoulders on the road. We certainly could and would walk more in our neighborhood if we didn’t think we would end up in the hospital after being hit by speeding vehicles.

Ive done this before…and Im a 66. I live downtown…I dont know if it will be as walkable as 66 sounds.

    OUCH!

Looks like I am the lowest so far with an 18…though not surprising to me in a suburban area. Walkability isn’t a criteria for me when choosing where to live though, mostly because I really love driving!

Wait, how is it that Josh got 94% and I only got 82%? We live five blocks from each other!

my vancouver west end neighbourhood got 63% which seems far too low! It’s possible to walk to anything you might ever need - parks, the ocean, 24 hour convenience stores, restaurants and shops of all kinds.

my current neighbourhood in delft received 60%. it’s in a suburban area but next to a huge mall and grocery store, and it is possible to walk or bike from there to the old city centre on pedestrian/cyclist paths in a fairly short time.
