Brubeck
We saw Dave Brubeck in concert last night at Harvard. He is way too old to be that sprightly on the piano, but there you have it. I hope I’m that great when I’m 88.

wow! that would have been awesome to see… It’s a real pity; I’m back in my home city, been here for 6 months now and have not gotten to see any ‘great’ music yet. That may have something to do with getting married, not having much money, and being really busy catching up with friends I haven’t seen for 3 years while I was in PNG…
hmmm… gotta take some time out!

Too KOOL! His daughter (Kathy?) and I were roommates at a Christian retreat back in 1974. She was really delightful-and attended Sarah Lawrence (I was at St. Lawrence U). I asked her about her skills-she said she had ‘none’ but thought her brother might stick with music. IMHO, Brubeck is one of the few jazz musicians that-is a musician-so I am glad and envy you.

The best part was how much fun he was having playing. I could listen to solo jazz piano all day (at least if it were played by him), but then he would stop or back off on what he was doing to let one of the other guys solo and he was get this huge grin on his face and sometimes even laugh out loud over something one of them did. He loved what he was doing. I hope I’m that happy when I’m 88.
